A cardiologist has named five foods that you are better off avoiding as much as possible. Cardiovascular disease is among the leading causes of death in the United Kingdom, but with conscious dietary choices, you can significantly reduce the risk. These are the five products that experts say you are better off avoiding.
Red and processed meat
Dr. Wen-Chih Wu, director of the Brown University Health Cardiovascular Wellness and Prevention Center, emphasizes that diet plays a major role in preventing heart problems. Red meat such as beef, lamb, and veal contains a lot of cholesterol and saturated fat. That is taxing on your heart and blood vessels. You don't have to cut out red meat completely, but it is wise to eat it in moderation and not daily. Pork also falls into this category. According to the cardiologist, it is better to avoid processed meats, such as bacon and hot dogs, altogether.
Fried food
Fries or a snack may seem harmless, but fried food is packed with saturated fats and trans fats. These have a direct negative impact on your heart health. Additionally, they provide an extremely high number of calories. If you are still craving fries, it is better to fry potatoes yourself with a little olive oil. That is a significantly healthier option than the fast-food version.

Soda and other sugary drinks are real silent killers for your heart. Excessive sugar intake contributes to weight gain, high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity. Additionally, sugar increases LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood and can cause inflammation. Water or sparkling water is therefore a much better choice. Also, pay close attention to labels to avoid added sugars. Chips and savory snacks
Chips, nachos, and cheese snacks are highly processed products that are often deep-fried and contain a lot of salt and additives. Snacking occasionally won't do any harm, but if it becomes a daily habit, it damages your heart more than you think.
Fatty dairy products
Dairy doesn't have to be removed from the menu, but do choose wisely. Whole milk, cream, and full-fat cheeses contain a lot of saturated fat. By choosing low-fat or semi-skimmed varieties, you reduce the strain on your heart while still getting important nutrients.
Now you know which foods you should avoid to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and what the healthy alternatives are!
